Watch our video to hear more about the changes that were introduced in August 2013 at Westmead Hospital. This is a joint project with the Western Sydney Local Health District and the Ministry of Health.

This trial focused on supporting patients’ use of private health insurance in Westmead’s Emergency Department (ED) by:

  • Clearly communicating to patients that they would not face any out of pocket costs or burdensome billing when using their insurance in the ED; and,
  • Introducing tangible benefits for patients and staff i.e. using revenue generated during the trial be re-investing it in hospital equipment for the ED, providing gift bags with toiletries for private patients

The trial has brought some impressive results (you’ll have to watch the video to find out more!) and is now being replicated in other hospitals.
